The National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute”
Ukraine is one of few countries of the world where aviation and space engineering is developed and manufactured and where skilled experts are trained for these areas.
The National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute” is the leading one among the Ukrainian educational institutions which trains such experts.
The KhAI is one of the 10 best universities in Ukraine. The KhAI was founded in 1930. The University is famous for its creation of the first in Europe high-speed airplane with a retractable landing gear and the creation of the design of the turbojet engine developed by teacher of the KhAI A. M. Liulka who afterwards became the academician and designer of many structures of aircraft engines including the engine of the aircraft Su-27.
In 2000 the University got a status of the National higher educational institution and got a name of the National Aerospace University “Kharkiv Aviation Institute”. During the period of its existence the University has trained about 80 thousands engineers. More than 80% of the experts with higher education who work in Ukrainian aerospace area are the graduates of the NAU KhAI.
At present about 9.5 thousands students and 160 post-graduate students are trained at the University; 650 teachers and 2.5 ths employers work here. There are 120 Professors and PhD among them.
The NAU KhAI is a member of International Association of Universities, EASN, PEGASUS organizations as well as is a signatory of Magna Charta Universitatum.
The NAU KhAI is a co-executor of many scientific and educational programs which are carried out with universities and companies of EU, Mexico, China. About 1400 foreign citizens from 45 countries are trained annually at the University.
The University covers a separate area of the city in the forest-part zone, it amounts about 25 hectares. The University has 8 academic buildings, research institute and laboratories, library, campus, sport complex, swimming pool, first medical aid point, dining halls, bank, kindergarten, etc.

On February 15, 1972, by the order of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the USSR № 83 of February 7, 1972, the Student Campus of the Kharkiv Aviation Institute was established.
Today, the campus has 9 dormitories for 5,508 places with a total area of 68,902.60 m2, 6 residential buildings for 485 apartments with a total area of 27048 m2 and is located on an area of about 14 hectares.
To meet the everyday problems of students and staff of the university on the campus are: hairdressers, cafes, cafeterias, shoe repair shop, laundry and dry cleaning.
To ensure the cultural leisure of students on campus there is a disco, billiards club, chess club, sports ground. Each hostel has an equipped sports room.
Creating your own mechanical workshops, garages with a garage for 6 units of vehicles allows you to quickly and properly solve the problems of the campus.

PROCEDURE OF ENTERING UKRAINE AND NAU “KHAI”
The procedures of visa obtainment should not be undertaken until the student receives the official invitation for study from the University. Since student is coming to Ukraine for a long-term period he/she should get the visa. To obtain Ukrainian visa student should address to the Embassy of Ukraine. Student should address the Ukrainian embassy in the country he/she is applying to as some requirements may vary. If there is no Embassy of Ukraine in student’s country he/she can apply to any other closest embassy.
IN ORDER TO ENTER KHAI STUDENT WITH THEMSELVES SHOULD BRING FOLLOWING LIST OF DOCUMENTS TO UKRAINE:
- International passport with student’s visa
- Original of school certificate and school transcripts (apostilled by Ministry of Education or equivalent legal body)
- X-Ray test certificate
- 6 photos 60 x 40 mm sized
- Birth certificate
- Original of medical certificate with issue date no earlier than 2 months before commencing the training
- Original of document certifying negative test results for AIDS disease
THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS MUST BE TRANSLATED TO UKRAINIAN LANGUAGE IN UKRAINE UPON ARRIVAL OF THE STUDENT (TRANSLATIONS SHOULD BE NOTARIZED):
- Passport’s 1st page – 2 copies
- School certificate and school transcripts – 2 copies
- Birth certificate – 2 copies
- Medical certificate and AIDS certificate – 1 copy
Future students must take into account that time-laps from issuing the invitation and arrival in Ukraine can take from 1 to 3 months. That’s why they should start the admission process beforehand in order to commence training in time.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!! Students should note that according to Ukrainian regulations they must enter Ukraine no later than 25 days before visa deadline. IF YOU MISS THIS DEADLINE, YOU WILL NOT BE ENROLLED TO THE UNIVERSITY AND HAVE TO LEAVE FOR YOUR COUNTRY IMMEDIATELY!
After having got the visa and tickets a student sends the following information to the University: the flight number, the arrival date and time, the arrival airport. The employees of the University send this information to the appropriate departments and arrange the meetings in airports, railway/bus stations. The meeting service expenses are paid by a foreign citizen (in case if student wants to be met by university’s representative).
